The Year In Christchurch At Teachers College
In 1958 Bob (and O, P & B) spent the year at Christchurch Teachers College training to become a Primary School Teacher. (years later we met Jason's teacher who had been trained there as well)
Back in Nelson in 1959, he was posted to Auckland Point School, and was at a Fete Day when he should have been at the hospital with Olive, who was giving birth to Steve, who went on to become "the apple of my eye" because of his ever present bonny smile that reminded Bob of his dad. To this day, Kerrian is jealous she never received such an accolade.

Living On The Water at Northbridge Marina
In 1971 my first year at Chatswood High, I took up swimming for sport, and we went to Northbridge Baths once a week. I always remember being quite lonely then because I hadn't made any friends, having only just arrived in Aussie from NZ.
In 1976 it took on a lot more importance for us as we moored Tamatea there.

Hugh & Beryl Hordern
Hugh paid me 50 c and hour to work on his boat, near our house in Crows Nest. What luck that I could walk there.
Many hours working on that huge thing, only ever visited him and 'Wedgewood' once when on the water.
Amazing coincidence that Hugh used to visit his grandmother at the Carr-Hordern Estate,
which eventually became the site of Chatswood High School. A famous Sydney family in retail - Anthony Hordern and Sons.
He was a great character, and I always used to enjoy meeting all of his friends that would periodically come to visit at the boat, including on occasion Horst and Mickey, driving up in that orange VDub.
Patrick is forever in the debt of Hugh and Beryl, because they renovated two adjacent terrace houses in Rose St Surrey Hills (Fact Check) and while he was living there as the house manager, in walked English Lady Katherine Mulcahy, and the rest is history. Qu. does that mean Kath is in their debt as well??

Horst & Mickey
I remember the first time I met Horst and Mickey was at a concreting day at the old North Shore Gas Works, a place where lots of people were building their steel and ferro-cement yachts. I think this one was a Hartly RORC 39, a very sleek looking beast.
Years later we shared his boat yard in St Leonards as he was building Symphony.
Who remembers that Horst was in the Vienna Boys Choir (until his voice broke).
